Dealing With Burnouts

Updated: Apr 14, 2020

Starting a new semester is always a difficult process. New teachers, new courses, and new stressors are always overwhelming. These feelings are completely normal, and the feeling of detachment after such a stressful period can cause one to spiral. However, it is important to understand that these feelings are common. In fact, more than 40% of students experience elevated/above-average levels of stress. This is usually caused by something called a 'Burnout.'

A 'Burnout' is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you are overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to fulfill goals.

There are many ways to deal with burnouts, such as:

  • Find A Release (For example painting, going for a jog, listen to music.)

  • Talk to Close Friends (Talking is a great way of destressing!!!)

  • Get More Sleep (Don't pull a Harini and only get 1 hour of sleep.)

  • Take Breaks (I beg you to not overstress yourself. Please. Cut the cameras. I BEG)

  • Eat Healthy Food (DO NOT EAT MCDONALDS EVERY WEEK. TRUST ME IT'S NOT GOING TO BE GOOD. I CAN TESTIFY.)
