Movie/TV Show Recs

You may have binge-watched all your favourite shows 10 times already, or finished every movie on your watchlist. But guess what, I have some nice tv-shows and movies you can watch. Of course, there are so many types of movies you can watch that fall under different genres. So without further ado, here are some cool Netflix movies and shows to check out.


Horror:

  • The Platform: In a future dystopia, prisoners housed in vertically stacked cells watch hungrily as food descends from above — feeding the upper tiers, but leaving those below ravenous and radicalized.

  • Cam: After a look-alike takes over her account, a cam girl with a growing fan base sets out to identify the mysterious culprit and reclaim her own identity.

  • The Perfection: In this twisty horror-thriller, a once-promising music prodigy reconnects with her former mentors, only to find them taken with a talented new pupil.

  • Eli: With his desperate parents in tow, an 11-year-old boy with a debilitating illness checks into an isolated clinic to undergo experimental therapy.

Action:

  • Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a movie about the story of how four high school students get sucked into the jungle setting of a video game, where they embark on a quest as their comically mismatched adult avatars.

  • Rampage follows the story of a primatologist who must find an antidote for the strange chemical that mutates three animals into overgrown, aggressive beasts, before the beasts destroy the city

  • Ready Player One: In a world on the brink of collapse, a talented gamer takes the lead in a series of challenges to win ownership of a massive virtual reality universe.

  • The Dark Knight: As Batman, Lt. Gordon and the district attorney continue to dismantle Gotham's criminal underground, a new villain threatens to undo their good work.

  • Death Race: A man wrongfully convicted of murder agrees to compete in a gruelling three-day race against fellow inmates in exchange for his freedom.

Romances/Rom-coms:

  • She’s Out of My League: When average-guy Kirk starts dating drop-dead-gorgeous Molly, his friends don't see it lasting, so Kirk does everything he can to avoid losing Molly.

  • The Tourist: An American tourist seeking solace for his shattered heart instead finds it in danger again after encountering a beautiful Interpol agent.

  • The Last Summer: Teens from a Chicago high school grapple with their dreams, relationships and identities in a transformative summer before they leave for college.

  • Falling Inn Love: When a San Francisco exec wins a New Zealand inn, she ditches city life to remodel and flip the rustic property with help from a handsome contractor.

  • Always Be My Maybe: Reunited after 15 years, famous chef Sasha and hometown musician Marcus feel the old sparks of attraction but struggle to adapt to each other's worlds.

TV-Shows:

  • Dynasty: The Carringtons and the Colbys feud for control over their fortune -- and their children -- in this updated reboot of the classic prime-time soap.

  • The House of Flowers: In this dark comedy, a wealthy matriarch tries to maintain her family's facade of perfection after her husband's mistress exposes their dirty secrets.

  • The End of the F***king World: A budding teen psychopath and a rebel hungry for adventure embark on a star-crossed road trip in this darkly comic series based on a graphic novel.

  • Elite: When three working-class teens enroll in an exclusive private school in Spain, the clash between them and the wealthy students leads to murder.

  • Atypical: When a teen on the autism spectrum decides to get a girlfriend, his bid for more independence puts his whole family on a path of self-discovery.

International:

  • Although Hotel Del Luna is not on Netflix, you have to check it out. Located in the middle of Seoul, Hotel del Luna is the eponymous hotel that caters only to ghosts; the beautiful but ill-tempered CEO is cursed to manage the hotel due to a terrible crime she committed, but cannot remember.

  • Tune In For Love: A student and a reticent teen first meet at a bakery in the 1990s and try to find each other through the years, as fate keeps pulling them apart.

  • Itaewon Class: In a colourful Seoul neighbourhood, an ex-con and his friends fight a mighty foe to make their ambitious dreams for their street bar a reality.

  • Tempted too is not on Netflix however is an amazing kdrama you should watch. Love is just a game for Chaebol heir who agrees to a petty bet with his friends to seduce a college student - until he starts to fall for her.

  • The Untamed: In a magical world of inter-clan rivalry, two soulmates face treacherous schemes and uncover a dark mystery linked to a tragic event in the past.

Upcoming Movies you may want to check out when they come out:

The Half It: When smart but cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, she doesn't expect to become his friend — or fall for his crush. This movie is LGBTQ+ focused and comes out on May 1st, so be sure to check it out when it comes out!
