Tips on Getting Something Done When You don't Feel Like It

Nearly everyone, at some point, has been guilty of putting off a task until later or made excuses to avoid doing something, even if we know we have to do it. Here are some simple tips to help complete a task that you may have been avoiding to do:


1. Get rid of distractions

Check to see if you have any distractions around that may be hindering you from starting or finishing your task. This can be as simple as turning off your phone or moving to a more peaceful environment.


2. Set up a plan

It is a lot easier to finish something when you set up a plan with realistic steps and goals so that you can track your progress and identify your accomplishments. This is especially crucial for a task that has no official deadline as it can be easy to procrastinate or forget about it.


3. Recharge

Sometimes, it's just more effective to let yourself be temporarily unproductive so that you can be even more productive later on. You may want to do something you are good at to boost your confidence and elevate your mood, or take a long walk to refresh your mind and generate new, creative ideas.


4. Establish a reward

Prepare something as a motivation booster to help you push through during an unpleasant time when you feel like giving up.
